Being around healthcare my whole life has really encouraged me to join this occupation as well. My mother is a 30-year ICU nurse while my older sister is a nurse, too. Watching them help people from the sidelines allowed me to get a feeling of what I would like to do with my life. However, I feel that nursing is not quite my calling, but being a physician assistant is. I ultimately wish to become a physician assistant because they often work closely with the patient, one-on-one, while also getting the privilege to scrub in during surgery. Ever since I was a little girl, the cardiovascular system of the body has intrigued me. It was not until recently that I knew that I was made to work with the heart because of my mother undergoing a heart attack in February of 2024. There have always been heart problems throughout my mom’s side of the family, but witnessing this situation first-handedly, will change your entire perspective. I overall wish to specialize in cardiology when becoming a physician assistant to help individuals just like my mother.
Throughout my years in middle and high school, I have taken all honors classes in hopes to challenge myself with my scholars. Stepping into high school, I included as many dual enrollment classes as possible to prepare myself for my future. I am very privileged to even be offered the dual enrollment classes at my high school, Mary G. Montgomery. Our teacher staff and administrations work tirelessly to enhance our preparation for college. While serving many leadership positions in and out of school, I talk to various, new individuals. This has overall encouraged me to collaborate with others and to listen to them with great care.
Growing up, I have always felt the need to help others. Whether that was assisting my peers with schoolwork or helping my mother around the house. Now that I have grown up, I have decided to give back to my community in various ways. The Buy A Tree Change A Life foundation is one of my favorite organizations where my local church sells Christmas trees and other Christmas items in order to help children in need, globally and locally. My mom and I volunteer every year while I also serve as a Special Olympics Buddy every year as well. I am also in the leadership program at my high school where we host blood drives about four times a school year. Our ultimate goal is to save lives! Serving as a 25-26 Mobile Azalea Trail Maid gives me the opportunity to travel throughout my city and around the United States to different events which grants me the privilege of not only meeting new people, but also giving back to them for all of their support.
It is commonly known that students who are involved within their schools’ extracurricular activities are more attentive in school than their peers. I thoroughly believe this because the extracurricular activities that I am involved in allows me to make lifelong friends, engage in meaningful tasks, and develop new skills or interests. For example, the leadership roles that I obtain within my school’s National Honor Society, Montgomery Maniacs Student Section, and the National English Honor Society allows me to influence my peers positively by teaching them transferable skills that they can use in everyday life. Participating in other organizations such as Mu Alpha Theta, Multicultural Club, Rho Kappa, and serving as a Student Government Representative also teaches me how to carry out these influences made on my peers and I. Overall, extracurricular activities in or outside of school positively impacts your general character.
